I am honored to have been trained at Dallas Theological Seminary where I graduated with honors in the Masters in Biblical Counseling program. The bonus was the bible certificate credits for which I received the Graduate Teacher Diploma Since then, I have completed certifications in Grief Counseling, Suicide Intervention, Trauma Therapy with Trauma Support Services of North Texas (TSSNT). Professional certifications currently underway are EMDR (Eye Movement Reprocessing & Desensitization & Reprocessing) and CSAT (Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist). Both of these focus on evidence-based interventions for trauma and addictions.
I have not always been a mental health counselor. I'm a former Certified General Accountant (CGA) with a Post Graduate Diploma in Finance from the University of Leicester, England. After managing the Light & Power Credit Union in Barbados for 8 years, I enjoyed a 17-year corporate career with the Shell Group of Companies in Barbados and Houston,TX. Substantive positions include Regional Stocks Controller for 17 islands in the Caribbean, Retail Manager Barbados, and Oil Products Risk Analyst. I left Shell in 2011 after a 3-year expatriate assignment for Shell Trading US in Houston, TX where I rotated through numerous positions in International Crude Oil Operations.
Today, along with professional counseling I freelance as a professional business hire for business process improvements.
My husband and I currently attend Trinity Church in Cedar Hill, TX. We enjoy the weekly fellowship of the Trinity Married Life group where we interact with a diverse mix of multicultural couples who love the Lord and seek to continually renew and enrich their marriages and families.
If you know me really well, you will know that I am a serious bible and prayer nerd so people may find me either boring or intense. Let me be clear though, I am not a bible basher, only a bible lover. And there's a very personal reason. You will have to ask me to find out.
I was born on the beautiful Caribbean island of Barbados, the last in a brood of six children. I lost my mom at the age of 17 and my dad 17 years later. I enjoy close relationships with all my siblings, one of which lives in Canada, and the other three, home in Barbados, where I visit as often as possible.
My husband Brett and I have been married since 2007 after dating for two years. Our immediate family includes my daughter Jade, stepdaughter Julia, and granddaughter Jessie.
I am blessed with great long time "foxhole" friends. That's means I can depend on them in a day of battle.
Since 2012 I've authored three books with many more "books" in the oven. My first—30 Days in August, is autobiographical, and documents my journey from a corporate career in Shell to where I am today—professional counseling. Rahab’s Walls (2014) was inspired by the biblical patriarch Rahab and speaks of the power of one woman to change her generational legacy. Onward Christian Soldier-Saints was published in 2019 as a devotional highlighting inspiring perspectives in spiritual warfare. These books are all available on Amazon.
Along with my passion for writing and reading, my lesser know passion is for bible teaching and a desire to write bible studies. I also enjoy cooking—primarily to delight my husband's with creative and tasty meals. I just love to hear him say, "Another restaurant quality meal today, honey!" :) We also love to host family and friends in our very modest home and stuff them with doggy bags as they leave.
The name of my company Virtue Matters, LLC, and its tagline...strength for you is derived from the Hebrew word for virtue—Cha-yil - (khah'-yil)
Virtue encompasses a range of power words: Strength. Support. Essence. Intelligence. Excellence. Courage. Resilience
These and more are my goals for your therapeutic outcomes
